In June 2020, Steel River Group announced its partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Association, Calgary Region (CMHA Calgary) to help create stronger peer support opportunities within the workplace.
The initiative reflected Steel River Group’s belief that employee wellbeing, family support, and mental health awareness are essential to building strong organizations and healthy communities.
A key driver behind the partnership was Theresa Frankel, Steel River Group’s Manager of Community Engagement, who had been actively involved with CMHA as a family peer support worker after graduating from CMHA’s Peer Support School in 2019.
Through Theresa’s leadership and lived experience, Steel River Group began working with CMHA Calgary to co-develop a Workplace Peer Support Program tailored to the unique needs of Steel River Group, its partner organizations, and the industries it serves.
The program focused on:
Creating safe spaces for open conversations
Reducing stigma around mental health challenges
Supporting employees and families through peer connection
Building healthier workplace culture
Prioritizing whole-person wellbeing
This partnership demonstrated that Steel River Group’s commitment to people extends beyond business development and project delivery.
It also includes creating environments where individuals feel supported, respected, and empowered.
Mental health continues to be an important part of building resilient teams, strong leadership, and sustainable success.
