On November 4, 2021, Steel River Group announced that its new entity, Water Care Company, had received grant funding from Alberta Innovates for a water pilot project in Stoney Nakoda First Nation.
The initiative represented an important step in addressing one of the most critical infrastructure and quality-of-life priorities facing many communities: access to safe, reliable, and sustainable water solutions.
The pilot project was designed to explore innovative approaches that could improve water systems and help create scalable solutions for broader community use.
Key objectives included:
Advancing clean water innovation
Supporting community infrastructure needs
Testing practical pilot solutions
Improving long-term water reliability
Creating models that could benefit other communities
For Steel River Group, the project reflected a broader commitment to solving real challenges through business innovation, partnerships, and community-focused development.
The Alberta Innovates funding also highlighted growing confidence in Indigenous-led companies delivering meaningful solutions in areas that matter deeply to communities and future generations.
This milestone demonstrated that Steel River Group’s expansion extended beyond partnerships and advisory services into innovation-driven ventures capable of generating measurable social impact.
The Water Care initiative remains an example of how Indigenous entrepreneurship can help lead practical progress in essential sectors across Canada.
